Planning to book holidays online? Be cautious and know what to do in case of fraud.
Read the DECO PROteste alert.
"Be careful" and "don't give up" if you're being misled - that's the warning from DECO about booking holidays online.
According to DECO PROTeste, as read on Notícias ao Minuto, more cases of fake accommodation ads have been appearing on booking websites, and there is a legal loophole that leaves consumers unprotected. The organization urges special attention when making this type of online reservations.
DECO advises that, in case of fraud, do not give up - many situations have a solution with the help of the organization.
In 2024, DECO received 17 thousand consumer support requests, and about 70% were resolved favorably. Therefore, if you are right, it's worth complaining, even in the face of obstacles.
However, the organization recognizes that there are not always effective solutions, especially when the legislation does not properly cover situations of fraud in hosting websites.
DECO emphasizes the urgent need to ensure protection for users of these platforms, as hosting sites currently do not take responsibility for bookings made between hosts and guests - leaving consumers unprotected.
So, before booking your stay, make sure to inform yourself well. DECO advises reading its guide on vacation rental fraud, which helps identify suspicious signs and explains how to act if you are deceived. Read here.
